Panama Ambassador and Consul General to Turkey, HE Mario A. Julio Granados visited the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) Headquarters on 11.12.2012.
HE Julio Granados, who has just been appointed as the first Ambassador and Consul General of Panama to Turkey, had a private meeting with Mr Murat Kıran, President, Mr Hüseyin Mengi, Board Member and Mr. Süheyl Demirtaş, the Secretary-General.
In the private meeting held with HE Julio Granados, who stated his appreciation for visiting the Headquarters of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association, which is one of the oldest non-governmental organizations in Turkey, significant steps have been taken regarding mutual co-operation between Turkey and Panama in maritime and shipbuilding.

A delegation from GISBIR, the Secretary-General Süheyl DEMİRTAŞ, Vice President D. Orkun KALKAVAN, Board Treasurer Orkun ÖZEK, Board Members Ufuk AKSOY and Özgür ÇİLLİ, participated in the Annual Meeting of OISA on the date of 21 November 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Secretary-General Süheyl DEMİRTAŞ made a successful presentation about the Turkish Shipbuilding Industry, which drew great interest and received positive feedback in the Annual Meeting.
Two special plaques were given to the President OISA and the Secretary-General OISA.
GISBIR Secretary-General and Board Members have taken important steps in the Annual Meeting of OISA towards fruitful co-operation in the forthcoming period.

Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) President Murat KIRAN and the Secretary-General Süheyl DEMİRTAŞ had a meeting with Rolf P. ALMKLOV, Commercial Counsellor and Çağlar ERDOĞAN, Senior Market Advisor of Innovation Norway. The meeting was quite successful and fruitful as the future co-operation of Turkey and Norway in shipbuilding industry and the forthcoming visit of the Norwegian delegation to Turkey were discussed.

Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) and T.R. Okan University signed a Co-operation Protocol on 06.11.2012 in GISBIR headquarters.
The signing ceremony of the Co-operation Protocol has been signed in the presence of Mr. Murat KIRAN, President GISBIR, Board Members of GISBIR, Mr Süheyl DEMİRTAŞ, the Secretary-General GISBIR and Prof. Dr. Şule KUT, Rector T.R. Okan University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet KABASAKAL, Assistant Rector, Prof. Dr. Nejat TUNCAY, Prof. Dr. Nejat TUNCAY, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Ms Rana ÇAKIR, Director of Career Center.
Mr. Murat KIRAN, President GISBIR expressed his gratitudes towards the signing of the Co-operation Protocol between GISBIR and Okan University adding that great importance is given by GISBIR to education. Having stated that shipbuilding industry provides a significant input in the economy and GISBIR aims to bring the Turkish shipbuilding industry further in guidance of Mr Binali YILDIRIM, the Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communications, who is also a seafarer, Murat KIRAN pointed out the necessity of entering taking our share from the offshore sector, which receives approximately 100 billion USD investments annually all around the world and grows progressively. He stated that GISBIR has also taken steps with T.R. Yıldız Technical University and that a project has begun in order to establish a technopark in the shipyards region in Tuzla.
Prof. Dr. Şule KUT, Rector T.R. Okan University, thanked for the invitation by GISBIR and stated that they have been carrying out co-operation projects in order to bring the academicians and various sectors and that they are happy to sign a Co-operation Protocol wih GISBIR, the sole representative of the Turkish shipbuilding sector, which is regarded as one of the important sectors in Turkey. Having stated that Okan University aims to become prominent in logistics and private shipping, Prof. Dr. Şule KUT said that various projects on education, certificate programmes, conference and seminars regarding shipbuilding and shipping industry can be held following the Co-operation Protocol.

Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications Shipyards and Coastal Structures General Manager Hızırreis Deniz visited Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association and attended the Board Meeting.

The Turkish Shipping Summit 2012 will be held in the Ritz Carlton Hotel Istanbul on the date of 13 November 2012. The summit, which will welcome a unique mix of presentation, panel discussions, debates, will provide social networking and a platform for the shipping industry to focus on the real issues.

Dr. Abdullatif A. Bin Sultan, the Secretary-General OISA, which was established to promote and foster economic co-operation and commercial relations among the Islamic countries and to consolidate their rights in the area of sea transport and freight at international level, attended the Board Meeting of GISBIR, which was chaired by Murat Kıran, the President GISBIR. Having stated that it is necessary for Islamic shipyards and shipping companies to be in productive co-operation mutually, Dr. Abdullatif A. Bin Sultan, the Secretary-General OISA suggested to take steps to establish an international shipyards association aimed at strengthening mutual collaboration.
Murat Kıran, the President GISBIR, presented a plaque to Dr. Bin Sultan, the Secretary-General OISA, as a remembrance of his visit.

New Board of Directors elected in GİSAŞ
Süheyl Demirtaş, the current Secretary-General of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association, has been elected as the new President of the Board of Directors GİSAŞ Shipbuilding Industry Co. Inc.
In the meeting held on 19 September 2012 within the scope of harmonization studies with the new Turkish Commercial Code, legal entity shareholders were elected for the Board of Directors.
Süheyl Demirtaş, the current Secretary-General of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association, has been appointed as the new President of the Board of Directors, while the representatives designated by the shareholder companies of GISAS constituted the new Board of Directors.
