CMI 2015 Istanbul Colloquium was held by the Turkish Maritime Law Association (MLA) and the Comité Maritime International (CMI) with the sponsorhip of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) between the dates 6-9 June 2015 in Istanbul.
More than 200 pioneers of the international maritime law, including CMI President Stuart Hetherington, MLA President Prof. Dr. Samim Ünan, CMI Colloquium Organising Committee Chairman Assistant Prof. Dr. Bülent Sözer, Istanbul University Law Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Emine Yazıcıoğlu, gathered for the CMI Colloquium, which took place in Istanbul for the very first time.
The organizers of the CMI 2015 Istanbul thanked GISBIR for the support given for the successful and unforgettable event. Murat Kıran, President GISBIR made a speech during the Gala Dinner of the event. The full text is as follows:
Dear President of the Turkish Maritime Law Association,
Dear President of the Comité Maritime International,
Honourable professors,
Dear guests and friends from all over the world:
A very warm welcome to all of you – Hoşgeldiniz
As the President of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) and a proud member of a leading shipowner family, it is my great honour to welcome you to our magnificent city of Istanbul.
Given the strong ties between the Turkish and the international maritime communities, I am surprised to learn that this is the first-ever meeting of the CMI in Istanbul.
Nevertheless, the first step has been taken and I am certain that a long and fruitful co-operation between the Turkish MLA and the CMI lies ahead of us.
You have indeed heard over that the Turkish maritime law has recently been renewed substantially. The new law is based on numerous international conventions, which have been developed by the cmi, such as the london salvage convention, the Geneva lien and arrest conventions.
Thusly, the work of the CMI is more important than ever for the Turkish maritime community. There is a lot to learn from you and perhaps we will share with you more and more of our experience.
I know that the CMI is not only concerned about legal work, but also about close friendships, memorable visits and fun celebrations.
We have provided a maximum assistance in order to ensure that you enjoy Turkey and the Turkish hospitality at its foremost and to make the CMI 2015 Colloquium in Istanbul a truly unforgettable event.
On this wise, i wish you all had a prospering colloquium and enjoyable social events.
May you all take fond memories home from Istanbul, the city of empires and the only city on two continents in the world.
Afiyet olsun bon appetite.
