Japan Federation of Basic industry Workers’ Unions and Class NK Istanbul visited GISBIR

 

Japan Federation of Basic industry Workers’ Unions KIKAN ROREN and Class NK Istanbul visited the Headquarters of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association on 16 July 2012.

Japan Federation of Basic industry Workers’ Unions is a union, which brings the workers from all sectors including shipbuilding and consists of 400 unions and 255,000 members and aims for sustainable employment by generating industrial and public policies.

Expressing his gratitude towards the reception of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association, Mr. Kazuo Sawada, Acting President of Japan Federation of Basic industry Workers’ Unions gave a brief speech about the Union and stated that they have 255,000 members.

The presentation given by Mr. Özgür Çilli, member of the Board of Directors, enlightened the members of the Japan Federation of Basic industry Workers’ Unions and Class NK Istanbul about the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association and the Turkish Maritime from past to present.

Taking the floor, Mr. Murat Kıran, the new Chairman of the Board, expressed his grief for the devastating flood in Japan and stated that our thoughts and prayers are for the peoples affected and martyred in this unfortunate incident and wished blessings for the souls of those have lost their life and our prayers for those injured mentally or physically. He further continued his speech by highlighting the achievements and the long-standing background of the Turkish shipping industry and suggested that more co-operations should be developed between Turkey and Japan.

Murat KIRAN is the New President of GISBIR

 

Extraordinary General Meeting held on 03.10.2011 at the center of Shipbuilders’ Association in Tuzla. Murat KIRAN was elected as President, as the Deputy President Salih Zeki CAKIR and as Vice President Mehmet Birol UNER and D. Orkun KALKAVAN. President Kiran said in speech with recent accessions the number of members has risen from 42 to 46.

At the Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) Extraordinary General Meeting of the Board held following the death of former President Murat Bayrak, names elected for the Executive Board. By the election Murat Kiran became President of the Executive Board, the other names of the Executive Board as follows: Salih Zeki Cakir (Deputy President), Mehmet Birol Uner, D. Orkun Kalkavan (Vice President), Orkun Ozek (Board Treasurer), Huseyin Mengi, Orhan Torlak (Member).

Mustafa Ocal, Ahmet Otkur and H. Erkan Selah are generated the High Advisory Board. Ismet Uner shall serve as President of the Colsultative Board and Ahmet Otkur (Deputy President), Mustafa Ocal, Ismail Oyar and Ufuk Guclu (Member).

In his opening speech General Assembly Murat Kiran spoke of the main goals. Kiran said, “We would like to make union’s organization and membership structure much more efficient and participatory in the medium and long term. Therefore, our goal is to allow the collection of all the constituent elements under our roof: Especially shipyards, boat manufactures and boatyard, marine industry employers, including material suppliers and sub-sector.” Kiran pointed out that “There are existing 71 active 125 shipyards, 420 boat manufacturing plants and 38 mega-yacht manufacturers in our country. As you can see the number of our members are far below than it is required.”

After election at General Assembly Murat Kiran offered his thanks. “Dear elders and friends,” he began to his speech and shared the following views: “ I would like to thank all sector members who contributed at taking hold especially during the transition period after the death of our President. From now on, the sample will be the achievementsof the past, will learn from our mistakes, but by turning our face to common future, we will seek ways to meet our members in common. Around the World every ship bıildt in Turkey is our justifiable pride of the country. Together we have tried and succeeded. We are stronger together.”

President Abdullah Gül received the President of the Turkish Shipbuilders Association (GISBIR), Murat Kıran, and his acompanying delegation at the Tarabya Residence.

At this meeting which takes 1 hour and 10 minutes, the problems and conditions of Turkish Shipbuilding Industry are explained to President Abdullah Gül. Our Secretary General Süheyl Demirtaş, Media Consultant Cüneyt Yalınkılıç, Presidency Economic Adviser Ahmet Ertürk and Principal advisor Yusuf Müftüoğlu are attended too.
