September 25, 2019, at the JSMEA Conference organized by the Japanese Ship Machinery and Equipment Association in Istanbul, Secretary-General Mehtap Özdemir made the opening speech to introduce GISBİR.
At the conference where mainly Japanese sub-industry companies were present, domestic producers and shipyards came together.
The International Chamber of Shipping organized a conference on “Setting Course For 2050: Powering Global Trade’ in London on September 11, 2019. GISBIR, which closely follows the changing dynamics of global trade and aims to develop new technologies, was among the sponsors of the Conference.
Secretary-General Mehtap Özdemir participated in the conference representing GİSBİR.
Marine Interiors, which was organized by Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, was held between 11-13 September 2019 in Hamburg. Representing GISBIR, Orhan Torlak, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Nurettin Caliskan, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission, attended the 10th Seatrade Europe – Cruise and River Cruise Convention.
Held every two years in the Polish city of Gdansk, the Baltexpo Fair opened to visitors this year from 09 to 11 September 2019. Baltexpo Fair on behalf of GISBIR Mr. Murat Ercan Özokutucu and The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission Nurettin Çalışkan, attended the event.
Participating in the opening day of the fair; Mr. Murat Ercan Özokutucu and Mr. Nurettin Çalışkan made visits to the stands of the companies and discussed the sectoral innovations.
Sponsored by GISBIR, National athlete, Derya Can, the world record holder for freediving, has developed a freshwater freediving world record.
When Derya Can enter the water to warm up for a while when she came to dive in the lake, she dived in the area where the particular platform was created for him. Reaching a depth of 70 meters, the national athlete surfaced after 2 minutes and 18 seconds.
National athlete, Derya Can’s record, was confirmed by observers from The World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS). Derya Can, 70 meters, palette, rope supported variable weight freshwater category has developed its own world record.
Technical Affairs and R&D Commission Member Gürsel Yıldız participated in the meeting which was held on 11-12 June 2019 in Vigo, Spain for representing GİSBİR.
The meeting was attended by 67 participants from 13 countries and discussed many issues including lightweight materials and solutions that could be used, processes related to steel structures, deformations, and shaping.
At the meeting, it was seen that the companies involved in the studies funded by the European Union brought the products of which they benefited from the results of their work, as well as the fiber-deck ferry project of the Ulanik Shipyard into a total of 800 tons of lightened projects.”
ASEF, which was established to contribute to the healthy development of international maritime transportation and to strengthen the issues such as world maritime security and marine environmental protection, convened in Tokyo last May.
Foreign Relations Commission Member Aydın Alaftan from GİSBİR attended the ASEF Council meeting.

– Review of “interim guidelines for technical works for TWG and ART activities
– Discussion of technical works on IMO technical issues in 2019

MARE FORUM ISTANBUL 2019:
The Turkish Maritime Excellence – looking ahead
6th Mare Forum Istanbul 2019 was held on Monday, April 15th in Istanbul. The conference was co-organized by Mare Forum and Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) and supported by various Turkish and international organizations.
During conference, more than 200 participants had the opportunity to understand vision of IMO from Secretary- General of IMO, Kitack Lim and to discuss crucial subjects of maritime industry.
ITU SNAME and SNAME Global Outreach and Strategic Intitiatives Director Micheal Taylor have met with Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association Secretary General Mehtap Karahalli Özdemir and President Foreign Relations Commission Nurettin Çalışkan at Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association Headquarter office in Tuzla.
